West Ham's could now face a fight to sign Derby winger Giles Barnes according to reports over the weekend.

Some earlier reports had suggested that Barnes move to West Ham was as good as a done deal but Aston Villa have now entered the race for the promising youngster.

New Derby boss Paul Jewell would like to keep the 19 year old at the club but has been told that he needs to sell before he can buy.

Barnes is likely to fetch a transfer fee of around £5 million and with reports of the youngster having become unsettled by the speculation linking him with a move away from the club, Jewell could be tempted to cash in.
