England Man On Way Out For £2m?
31st March 2008

By Staff Writer

Although it has been on the cards for some time I cannot believe that Spurs are so desperate to get rid of Paul Robinson that they would sell him for a mere £2m, as has been reported today.

Despite some high profile errors, Robbo would be a welcome addition to many Premiership sides who feel they could rebuild his confidence and form where Spurs seem to have failed this season. His form not helped by an almost constantly changing central defensive partnership, often of limited experience.

Even a relegation side like Sunderland understand the importance of spending big on this position, having splashed out a reported £9m on Craig Gordon, and it seems to be paying off.

Would Robinson be tempted by a move to a Championship side on their way up? Perhaps a move back up North to Stoke or Hull, should they win promotion, might suit him. He could rebuild his career closer to home and at a lower profile, he is still only 28 and therefore still someway short of his peak years.

The thought of being left out of future England squads should he be relegated may mean he would prefer another mid table club, or perhaps West Brom who look both guaranteed Champions and well equipped to stay in the Prem when they go up.

Wherever Robbo goes it will be sad to see him go, he has produced some fine performances in a Spurs shirt and never failed to give us a wave.
