Liverpool to move for the new Gerrard
10th December 2007

By Staff Writer

Liverpool are considering a January move for Manchester City's Michael Johnson according to reports over the weekend.

£10 million rated Johnson has been described as the new Gerrard, something not lost on his current boss Sven Goran Eriksson:

"He does for Manchester City what Steven Gerrard does for Liverpool. They are a little different in style because Gerrard is more of a fighting football player than Johnson.

"Michael is an all round footballer, who can score goals and make great passes as well as being a great athlete and having a good sense of being able to defend."

Eriksson also told the Sunday Mirror that he had heard news linking the player with a move to Liverpool:

"I heard rumours that Liverpool were interested in signing Michael but I know nothing official. I have certainly never offered to sell him.

"I am convinced that Michael is a very good football player and I am just as convinced one day he will also play for England."
