Arsenal and Manchester United are locking horns in a battle to sign the latest youngster to emerge from Sporting Lisbon hot on the heels of Ronaldo and Nani.

21 year old midfielder Miguel Veloso has a £20 million release clause in his current contract which the News of the World claims both clubs are set to test in January.

Veloso's agent told the paper:

"There have been several contacts and several offers from England. I won't name the clubs but one of them was not far from his buy-out clause.

"If there's agreement from Sporting and the player, it's possible for him to leave. But there's no pressure or desire that it should happen yet."
